The Center for Latin American Studies (CLAS) of the School of Arts and Sciences at Rutgers University, New Brunswick, invites applications for a non-renewable two-year Postdoctoral Associate position in Latin American Studies. We seek applicants with strong multi-regional training in the fields of Anthropology, Geography, History, Politics, or Sociology, with work on indigeneity, violence, migration, race, gender, or urban studies. Specialists on Central America or Mexico whose work engages state policies, migration, borders and mobilities, inequality, violence, social movements, climate change, and indigenous or Afro-descendant communities are especially encouraged to apply. The Postdoctoral Associate will receive mentorship from the Director and from the Center’s affiliated faculty and support for their conference, research, and publications work. The Associate must maintain an agenda of research, teaching, and participation in CLAS. Teaching obligations are three courses yearly and will include two sections of an interdisciplinary introductory survey and a smaller thematic course. The Associate is expected to participate in conferences, workshops, and seminars sponsored by CLAS and help organize events in their field. The Associate may also participate in the many rich forums provided by the larger School of Arts and Sciences and Rutgers communities including the Rutgers Center for Historical Analysis, the Latino Studies Research Initiative, the Center for Cultural Analysis, and the Post-Doctoral Associates support program. Applicants must have received the Ph.D. between July 1, 2021, and July 1, 2024. Applicants who have not completed their Ph.D. at the time of application will need to provide official verification of completion by July 1, 2024. The appointment will be effective September 1, 2024. The Associate will receive an annual salary of no less than $61,805 and Rutgers University health benefits. They will also be provided a modest research expense budget of $3000 for the two year term, and a book manuscript workshop with a guest reader. Applications should consist of a cover letter, a CV, a brief description (not to exceed two pages in length) of teaching and research interests, and three letters of recommendation. The CLAS has over 60 faculty affiliates across Rutgers’ three campuses and organizes a rich program of events. Further information about the CLAS can be found on our website (CLAS.Rutgers.edu). Questions should be addressed to Professor Aldo Lauria Santiago at LatinAmericanStudies@lcs.rutgers.edu. Review of applications will commence on 1 January 2024 and continue until the position is filled. |
