10-Month Tenure Track Position   





COMPENSATION: 
 Initial salary placement ranges from $55,714 to $87,247, based upon education and experience. The current faculty salary schedule includes five classes and twenty steps with a maximum annual salary of $116,888.  A District-paid comprehensive benefit package which includes medical, dental and vision insurances for the employee and dependents, and a $50,000 employee life insurance policy are provided. Representative Duties

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Integrate a variety of pedagogies and a wide range of instructional delivery systems including innovative and creative uses of technology for face-to-face, online or hybrid modalities.

  •  Effectively develop and maintains culturally sensitive and equity-minded learning environments.

  • Create a learning environment that fosters student success, using different teaching modalities (Learning Management System, Canvas preferred).

  • Effectively engaging with and facilitating authentic learning for students of diverse backgrounds, cultures, and experiences; encouraging students to participate in deaf community activities.

  • Engage with community stakeholders to promote program growth and quality for Certificate offerings.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with a diverse faculty, staff, and student population.

  • Teach in accordance with departmental course outlines and design instructional activities to promote student success.

  • Contribute to the development and revision of ASL curriculum, incorporating best practices and industry standards.

  • Collaborate with colleagues in program and curriculum development and participate in other departmental meetings and projects.

  • Teach scheduled classes on-campus and in-person and perform related duties as assigned.

  • Serve on academic senate and shared governance committees as necessary to support and enrich instructional programs.

  • Promote the success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and effective teaching methodologies.

  • Comply with district policies and procedures in the performance of all duties by timely compliance with clerical and administrative responsibilities including holding weekly office hours and being available to assist students as required.

  • Participate in assessment, program review, evaluation, and planning of Student Learning Outcomes and Program Learning Outcomes.


Requirements

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Any bachelor's degree and two (2) years of professional experience;

OR any associate degree and six (6) years of professional experience


Must have sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in either Deaf Studies, American Sign Language, Interpreting ASL or related field

  • Master’s or Ph.D. in either Deaf Studies, American Sign Language, Interpreting ASL or related field

  • Native or near-native proficiency in American Sign Language

  • ASLPI (American Sign Language Proficiency Interview), Score of 4 or higher

  • SLPI (Sign Language Proficiency Interview), Score of Advanced

  • Teaching experience at a community college or University

  • Teaching experience at secondary level

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

Office, classroom, lab and/or on-line environment. Position requires ability to communicate and exchange information. The assignment may include day, weekend, and/or evening classes on campus and/or at off campus locations. Position requires ability and schedule flexibility to accommodate active participation in College and Department Outreach Events such as College and Career Fairs and College and Community Presentations.
