Job Summary
The position of Groundskeeper Level I maintains the landscape, grounds, and parking lots of Midland College as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Ability to operate various types of equipment and tools, including lawnmowers (push and riding), trimmers, hedge trimmers, edgers, leaf blowers, chainsaws, tractors, and other landscaping equipment
  • Ability to use hand tools required for landscaping
  • Ability to follow instructions and complete assignments
  • Knowledge of landscaping techniques and processes
  • Ability to lift or move up to 75 pounds at a time
  • Ability to climb ladders
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy
Preferred Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Previous landscaping experience
Essential Functions
  • Mows, trims weeds, and rakes leaves
  • Picks up and removes trash prior to mowing a designated area
  • Trims bushes, shrubs, and hedges
  • Prepares soil and plants flowers, bushes, hedges, or shrubs
  • Plants trees and prunes them when necessary
  • Cuts and removes trees as needed
  • Applies fertilizer, pesticides, and herbicides as directed
  • Completes snow removal tasks such as shoveling sidewalks, steps, and doorways as needed during winter months
  • Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and tools
  • Operate grounds equipment and tools in order to maintain campus grounds and parking lots
  • This position requires strict adherence to all College safety policies and procedures
  • Assist Set-Up Custodian with set-up arrangements for College functions as needed
  • Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
  • Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing ladders and kneeling
  • Must be physically able to operate landscaping equipment and tools, including power equipment, hand tools, drive tractors, vehicles, and riding lawnmowers
  • Must be able to lift or move up to 75 pounds at a time
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions
Security Sensitivity
All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary $15.93 per hour - $2,762.08 per month
Max Salary $15.93 per hour - $2,762.08 per month
