As an ACFO/Associate Chief Financial Officer, you will play a pivotal role in managing the financial health of our college. The Associate Chief Financial Officer is accountable for the day-to-day accounting operations of the college, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk. The ACFO will also be responsible for improving the accuracy of the college’s reported financial results and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). The ACFO position reports directly to the Chief Financial Officer.
Required Education/Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business administration or accounting and ten (10) years of progressive responsibility in assignment, including four (4) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. 
Preferred Education/Experience/Skills:
  • Experience working in a community college business office, or with governmental accounting.
  • Prefer 6 years of accounting experience with supervisory experience.
  • Prefer extensive experience with GASB Statements.
Other Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge in Supervisory principles; Financial management principles, practices, and procedures; Budgeting principles; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) principles; Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, and regulations; Report preparation techniques; highly proficient in Microsoft Excel; Strong interpersonal skills; Effective oral and written communication/public relations skills; excellent problem-solving and critical-thinking skills; Ability to maintain confidentiality; Excels in communicating complex financial information in an easy to use format while reporting and assisting internal and external partners.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duty and Responsibility:
  • Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures.
Duty and Responsibility:
  • Maintains and reconciles a variety of ledgers, accounts, and investments, including the general ledger; examines accounting transactions to ensure accuracy; corrects financial records as necessary.

  • Manages the preparation of annual financial statements and Office of State Controller’s ACFR package.

  • Organizes and responds to external auditor requests and inquiries.

  • Coordinates the activities of the accounting function, which includes coordinating projects and ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and local laws, regulations, codes, and/or standards.
Duty and Responsibility:
  • Prepares a variety of management fiscal and organizational reports, including ad-hoc reports; compiles, organizes, and analyzes financial and statistical data.

  • Supports the development of the annual budget; ensures the fiscal integrity of the College.

  • Trains staff and faculty on budget preparation and management. Actively promotes budget literacy on processes, explains allocation methodology, and collaborates with all departments to assist in decision-making. Evaluates and creatively addresses needs while remaining compliant with regulations.
Duty and Responsibility:
  • Collaborate, develop, plan, and execute work programs, budget requests, and quarterly reports; research and prepare detailed reports on a variety of college management topics as appropriate.

  • Manage cash flow for college moving money between investment accounts.

  • Works closely with Chief Financial Officer to manage state, local and institutional funds.

  • Ensures compliance with all federal, state, and local financial regulatory agencies.

  • Directs and supervises all financial control activities to ensure soundness of all college financial processes. Manages business office activities as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer.
Duty and Responsibility:
  • Directs accounting and financial processes for administration of all grants, assuring compliance with state and federal laws and/or guidelines and agreements as identified in grant documentation. Assures that reporting internally and to external agencies is timely and accurate.
Duty and Responsibility:
  • Administers institutional programs with revenue streams, assuring that they are recorded and leveraged according to regulations.

  • Manages Auxiliary Services including vending contracts, Beacon’s Bistro North Campus, Courier Services and Beacon’s Nest Campus store and risk management programs.
