Job Description Summary
SUMMARY:
The primary responsibility of this individual is to provide quality instruction to Western students enrolled in a variety of classes. Teaching a course over distance education medium, such as Internet is also a common expectation. This individual must be able to relate to a wide variety of students in the community college environment. This individual’s responsibilities include teaching courses in the Nursing Assistant Program. Travel may be required.


It is expected that this individual will accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective, competent manner and strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Provides quality classroom, lab and clinical instruction to students in assigned courses.
2. Provides quality learning experiences for all students in accordance with their needs and abilities while maintaining the basic integrity of the course’s standards and objectives.
3. Utilizes syllabi, evaluation tools, and other course materials provided by Nursing Assistant Program to meet program and Western standards.
4. Teaches courses in a variety of environments and modes as required. Examples include teaching in the evening, teaching in the clinical setting, teaching using active learning strategies and teaching using internet or distance technology.
5. Develops good working relationships with professionals in this discipline in the College’s service area in order to solicit cooperation and support for curricular planning and other functions.
6. Works with clinical agencies to ensure students meet clinical requirement as outlined in memorandum of understanding for clinical site attendance.
7. Learns to communicate clearly and effectively using the college network system, including the e-mail and calendar system, the intranet, Learning Management System and word processing; integrates learning with technology into the classroom as appropriate.
8. Refers students to the resources the College provides.
9. Maintains an inventory of all assigned equipment and supplies in assigned areas; takes prudent efforts to safeguard Western physical resources from unauthorized use. Maintains safe working conditions and practices.
10. Submits syllabi, student evaluations, grades, end of the year evaluation forms, and other required information in a timely manner.
11. Maintenance of current CPR certification and vaccinations for clinical attendance.

Minimum Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (Education, Experience, Knowledge, and Abilities)
1. Associate degree in nursing or higher.
2. Active, unencumbered, RN license in Wyoming.
3. Two years (4000 hours) of clinical practice as a registered nurse, at least 1 year of which must be in the provision of long-term care facility services.
4. Completion of a course in teaching adults (e.g., Train the Trainer) or have documented experience in teaching adults or one year experience in managing nurse aides.

Equivalency Statement
For those who do not exactly meet all the minimum qualifications, an equivalent combination of education and experience, which has provided comparable knowledge and abilities, may be acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Abilities, Education and Experience)
5. Experience using active approaches to learning; experience using alternative methods of learning, such as interactive software, Internet, or individualized modular programs.

6. Work experience in the clinical practice of nursing within the past five years.
