Position Summary/Purpose of Position: | The Associate Vice President for University Development (AVP) directs fundraising programs within the Schools & Colleges, including Athletics, the Smith School of Business, the College of Computer, Mathematical, & Natural Sciences, the A. James Clark School of Engineering, the College of Agriculture & Natural Sciences, the School of Architecture, Planning & Preservation, the College of Arts & Humanities, the College of Behavioral & Social Sciences, the College of Education, the College of Information Studies, the Philip Merrill College of Journalism, the School of Public Health, and the School of Public Policy. The AVP will be directly responsible for the management of the fundraising teams responsible for historically 70% of annual fundraising attainment. The AVP plays the pivotal role in planning and executing the annual fundraising goal as well as university-wide fundraising campaigns, in partnership with the Vice President for University Relations and the Assistant Vice President for Central Development, as well as in close collaboration with the School/College Deans. The AVP will work closely with Deans and other campus leadership, developing fundraising priorities and strategies for their respective Units. The AVP will establish ambitious fundraising goals and develop performance metrics for development units and staff, driving efficiency and maximizing philanthropic support. The AVP will utilize data analytics tools to identify trends and formulate strategies to drive the gift officer metrics framework. The AVP will work with development officers and campus partners to create and execute donor strategies; provide training and mentorship to fundraising staff; and maintain their own portfolio of high-level prospects. The AVP will encourage collaboration and interdependence between University Development and the Alumni Association to maximize synergy in outreach and engagement efforts. The AVP will also play a lead role for University Relations with the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees, and will be responsible for the development committee of the University of Maryland College Park Foundation Board of Trustees. The AVP will represent the University before multiple internal and external constituencies. They will report directly to the Vice President (VP) of University Relations and serve on the VP’s Senior Leadership team. The AVP will travel approximately 20% of the time and have the availability to work evenings and weekends as necessary for events, donor meetings, and programs. The AVP will represent the University before multiple internal and external constituencies. This position will require the availability to work nights and weekends and travel approximately 20% of the time. |
