LOCATION

Palo Verde College is located in the City of Blythe at one of the busiest entrance points to California. The college is located in a desert oasis adjacent to the beautiful Colorado River and the Palo Verde Valley.  Blythe, and the fertile Palo Verde Valley, is primarily a farming and ranching area.   Boating, fishing and hunting attract many tourists.  The Palo Verde Valley is centrally located between Phoenix and Los Angeles, Las Vegas and the Mexican border.  The valley’s great climate, with more than 350 days of sunshine and mild winters, attracts thousands of winter visitors every year.


NATURE OF THE POSITION
Under the direction of the EOPS/CARE Director, the NextUP Instructional Services Technician I performs specialized duties requiring a working knowledge of the Foster Youth Educational Support ProgramNextUP, instructional service area and functions involved therein, as well as the use of initiative and independent judgement within procedural and policy limits. This position provides information to the public, performs a variety of clerical duties, and provides utilitarian assistance to all departments within the scope of the Instructional Services unit.  

Examples of Duties

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  1. Provides support to assigned Instructional Services programs and services, assisting in the coordination of the day-to-day operations and workflow of the department. 

  2. Answers, screens, and routes incoming calls in assigned area for all staff and faculty employees. 
  3. Provides routine information to employees, students and the public as requested. 
  4. Understands functions of the offices and makes appropriate referrals. 
  5. Performs clerical work such as typing, proofreading, filing, note taking and digitally archiving documents. 
  6. Collects and distributes instructional materials as assigned. Prepares, verifies, and distributes NextUP book vouchers; keeps records of NextUP lending library spreadsheets; organizes books and assigns to appropriate sites. 
  7. Assists with filing and digitally archiving documents. Maintains all files, making sure there is an adequate supply of all program forms, applications, and office supplies. Creates purchase requisitions for travel, purchases, etc. 
  8. Assists with the inputting and retrieval of academic registrations, including admissions applications (electronic and paper), assessment results, enrollments, course drops/adds, course withdrawals, and related personal student information. 
  9. Trains work-study students in assigned service areas. 
  10. Assists with the collection of data and preparation of reports. 
  11. Communicates to faculty, staff, vendors, students, or other stakeholders, the availability of, or changes to, texts, courses, or course materials, programs, services, or applications. 
  12. Prepares and distributes schedules and learning resource information, such as course offerings, classrooms, laboratories, equipment, and websites. 
  13. Travels to various education sites such as, but not limited to, prison institutions. Attends staff meetings along with appropriate workshops and conferences related to assigned areas of responsibility.
  14. Processes a variety of documents and information related to enrollment and student applications and maintenance or student permanent records. 
  15. Assists NextUP program with yearly events. 
  16. Performs other duties as assigned. 

Educational/Experience Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICIATIONS 

  1. High School Diploma or GED equivalent 

  1. Communicate effectively orally and in writing. 

  1. Perform duties requiring attention to detail. 

  1. Work under time constraints. 

  1. Knowledge of record-keeping techniques 

  1. Proficiency in the use of standard office programs (e.g., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), personal computers, and the internet. 

  1. Passage of the District’s clerical skills tests. 

  1. Type 40 wpm 

  1. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, ethnic, racial, age, national origin, religious, gender, sexual orientation, disabilities, and socio-economic backgrounds. 


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  1. Associates degree from an accredited institution. 

  1. Knowledge of California Community College systems and operations.

CLASSIFICATION /SALARY 

  1. This is a Part-Time position, 19 hours per week, 12 months. May include evening and weekend duty. 

  1. Row 5 on the Part-Time Classified salary schedule. 

  1. This position is contingent upon continued categorical funding.
