Position Summary

The Department of Institutional Effectiveness and Learning Technologies is recruiting for a full-time Learning Technologies Specialist.  This position is responsible for  administrating the college's learning technologies, ensuring compliance with accessibility standards and resolving technical issues as well as exploring new learning technologies, and assisting with institutional research functions.  Maintaining data accuracy and confidentiality are key competencies. Computer skills, teamwork, independent judgement including prioritization, effective communication, professionalism, time management, and attention to detail are also essential competencies.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Serves as a technical resource for the college’s adopted learning management system (LMS), lecture capture software, conferencing software, and other learning technologies.
  2. Supports and trains students and employees in the effective use of learning technologies.
  3. Serves as an administrator for learning technology platforms including LMS and video software.
  4. Supports college-wide compliance efforts for electronic materials accessibility including ensuring student assistive technology accommodations are met.
  5. Develops and maintains currency with accessibility requirements including the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, and Web Accessibility Initiative’s Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0 AA.
  6. Works to resolve technical issues including priority issues that arise outside of traditional office hours.
  7. Explores new and innovative learning technologies for college contexts and audiences.
  8. Assists with assessment and other institutional research functions including supporting end-user reports related to internal and external reporting.
  9. Assists with SQL queries and information hygiene related to data science in support of institutional effectiveness operations.
  10. This position will access student records at times and will follow all FERPA guidelines.
  11. Other duties as assigned by the director.

Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Network Engineering Technology and Cloud Computing, Computer Science, Data Science, Educational Technology, or a closely related field.
  • Computer skills such as learning management systems, cloud-based software solutions, Microsoft Office Suite, SQL databases, and/or statistical software solutions.
  • Must be able to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgement and work effectively and cooperatively with a wide variety of individuals and teams including students and employees.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and ethical standards when dealing with confidential information
  • Attention to detail to ensure quality and accuracy of data.

Physical Demands

  • Employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle controls, key pads, etc.
  • Will be required to sit and reach with hands and arms as well as sit, stand, and walk.
  • Employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds while setting up video production hardware and/or loading office supplies and paper.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, some color vision, and the ability to adjust focus from documents to computer screen.
  • Hearing of light to moderate sound is required by this job. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Ability to use telephone systems and/or video conferencing software to communicate is required.
