General Description |
The Department of English invites applications for full-time tenure-track ESL for the 2024-2025 academic year. Community College of Philadelphia has been offering English as a Second Language (ESL) to students from all over the world for more than 40 years and is fast becoming a number one destination for English Language Learners in the region. With more than 800 students from more than 50 countries, we understand the questions and needs that are unique to our diverse student body, and unlike most other ESL programs, CCP offers financial aid for academic ESL courses to eligible students. The College’s Academic ESL course sequence develops students’ reading, writing, listening and speaking skills in order to prepare them for success in navigating life in the U.S. and in pursuing further education. Courses are delivered in person at our Main Campus and our Northeast Regional Center (NERC); in addition to synchronous or in hybrid formats. Most of our courses are offered in 15-week terms, and a few are offered in 7-week terms. Additionally, the Academic ESL course offerings include morning, afternoon, or evening courses in order to accommodate the varying needs of our students. The English Department at Community College of Philadelphia is a professional organization of nearly 300- full- and part-time faculty members teaching over 750 sections of courses each term on the Main Campus and our Regional Centers. We provide instruction in developmental reading and writing, English as a second language (ESL), college writing, literature, communication studies, mass media, theater, and creative writing. We offer Associate of Arts degrees in Communication Studies/Mass Media, English, and Theater. Our curriculum helps prepare students for careers in broadcast and print journalism, screenwriting, public relations, advertising, education marketing, and theater. |
