Summary of Position
The InterOperability lab is a commercially funded independent testing facility for networking and data communications devices and software. The Associate Technical Service Manager is responsible for supporting the development and execution of testing services and/or hardware/software testing tools used by our approximately 200 global business partners https://www.iol.unh.edu/membership/members. The position will serve as a technical manager and lead developer within the Embedded and Baseband teams. The technical manager will support the Embedded and Baseband conformance teams, including 1588 and TSN related areas. The lead development will focus on ongoing BitPhyer and Violett software needs as used by the Embedded and Baseband team for conformance testing, focusing on FPGA HDL and/or software.

Additional Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree and two years of experience in technology appropriate to project such as IPV6, high-speed ethernet and mobile, and/or other technology as defined by the IOL.
  • Basic troubleshooting experience; ability to respond quickly and isolate basic issues with networking devices
  • Basic demonstrated understanding of data communications; communication between computer systems or devices and testing practices and methodologies
  • Agile Team Experience
  • Project management experience.

Royalty / IP Licensing Pool: IOL managers are entered into an IP licensing pool to receive compensation based on tools and software that the UNH-IOL licenses to our customers.
Incentive / Bonus Program: IOL managers are also eligible for an annual incentive bonus based on department and individual performance.

Duty/Responsibility
Project Management, Development and Supervision:
  • Assist in preparing project reports and project plans.
  • Manage project teams of hardware and software developers in order to improve current test tools through research and development.
  • Develop, design, and maintain test scripts and software for current and future testing services.
  • Supervise 5 to 12 team members as assigned

Example: Work with developers (5-12) to make sure release plans are executed. Act as technical team lead for BitPhyer development packages. Oversee testing activities, using the tooling developed, in the Embedded and Baseband teams
Duty/Responsibility
Training and Testing:
  • Implement laboratory training policies; train and mentor employees as assigned for software development, agile methodologies, and IOL policies and procedures. Perform and provide technical support for testing to UNH-IOL customers.
  • Support the systems deployed within the UNH-IOL for the technical requirements, maintenance, and operation of the current BitPhyer test software and services, along with future releases of those tools.

Example: Specifically, provide technical training to 5-12 employees on software development, software testing methodologies and agile methodologies. Train employees to follow applicable UNH-IOL standard operating procedures and best practices. Perform and provide technical support for testing protocols using the BitPhyer software packages.

Customer Service- Client Relationship Management:
  • Assist in communication with approximately 20 customers to resolve issues with technical setup and operation within IOL testing services, and assist in managing relations with current Embedded and Baseband customers.
  • Assist in communication with approximately 10 customers to resolve issues with testing and/or BitPhyer test software and related hardware.

Example: Provide technical support to customers and technicians for IOL testing services and UNH-IOL developed tools (boards and software).

Documentation:
  • Develop and maintain detailed networking test plans based on open standards.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation for the usage and development of the BitPhyer software tools.

Example: Provide internal documentation for the development of BitPhyer, and internal and external documentation for the use of BitPhyer to complete testing. Also, provide input to the quality management system to improve UNH-IOL standard policies and procedures.
Duty/Responsibility
Trade show/Events/Travel:
  • Assist in planning, organizing and execution of UNH-IOL supported group test events operated under existing project or testing services.
  • This includes designing test metrics, topologies, collecting results, and reporting to vendors before, during, and after the event or initiative.

Example: Provide technical support for the test events or trade show demonstrations for ~4 events per year.
