Job Description

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR, RESEARCH FINANCE, Office of the Vice President for Research (VPR)-Research Administration Services (RAS), to serve as the leader for research finance, providing sponsored research financial oversight, advice, and management on behalf of MIT-wide research administration to faculty/principal investigators, schools/college/areas, and departments, labs, centers, and institutes (DLCIs).  Will lead RAS on financial post-award activity, collaborating on issues and strategies for sponsored research proposals/agreements; provide advice on complex proposal administration and post-award financial issues; provide guidance to dean’s and DLCI headquarters offices on appropriate funding and costing for graduate research assistant and sponsored fellowship appointments; participate in the evaluation of proposals and awards to determine activity type and appropriate F&A rate; work with RAS and DLCI research administrators on proposal budget strategy for cost-share, indirect cost issues, and sponsored research and fund under-recovery; collaborate on accounting system updates; respond to inquiries regarding special terms, allowability of costs, and account irregularities; collaborate with the Office of the VP of Finance on interim reporting, invoicing, and closeouts to ensure compliance with Institute/federa/sponsor regulations; manage a research finance team, including hiring, providing training and development opportunities, and evaluating performance; and identify team goals and priorities for continuous proactive management of sponsored research portfolios.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED: bachelor's degree; seven years’ related experience; thorough technical knowledge of grants and contracts; experience with federal, non-federal, foundation, and industry sponsors; familiarity with 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance) and standard accounting/GAAP principles; proven management skills and experience; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to work in a complex, fast-paced environment; and high-level proficiency with financial systems and MS Office applications.  PREFERRED:  experience with DLCI research administration.  Job #23938-12
