Job Description

TECHNICAL ASSOCIATE, McGovern Institute for Brain Research, to work in the laboratory of Dr. Mehrdad Jazayeri.  JazLab conducts multidisciplinary research on the neural basis of cognition in humans and animal models, spanning the fields of systems, computational, and cognitive neuroscience; and uses cutting-edge brain recording/perturbation tools to study neural activity as animals perform complex tasks.  Responsibilities include performing animal-related functions such as animal care, behavioral training and testing, pre- and post-operative care, monitoring anesthesia, conducting MRIs, and assisting with surgeries; wet-lab related functions such as preparing for and leading lab inspections, enforcing environmental health and safety, purchasing chemical/biological materials, sterilizing supplies, and maintaining equipment; and management/administrative functions such as developing standardized protocols, onboarding personnel, scheduling, organizing events, arranging guest visits, managing finances, processing reimbursements, proofing grants/manuscripts, handling mail, and liaising with various departments on campus. Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  bachelor's degree in a science-related field; two years of relevant laboratory experience; comfort working with animals; strong organizational, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills; and self-motivation. Must be able to perform enlisted functions with little help after an initial learning and adaptation period and juggle the dynamic events that occur in a fast-paced interdisciplinary research environment. PREFERRED: animal care experience and experience as a lab technical assistant.  Job #23956
