Duties
The Assistant Dean of Academic Advising and New Student Orientation leads the college’s academic advising and New Student Orientation (NSO) services, processes, and procedures. The Assistant Dean provides significant day-to-day direction to Academic Advisors, staff, and student employees. This position sets strategic goals for the department, contributes to the new student onboarding process, and supports successful continuing student and transfer advising. In alignment with the NACADA Core Competencies and other best practices, the Assistant Dean ensures that leading practices and ethical principles are utilized across all services and supports. This position manages budgets, evaluates effectiveness of departmental services, prepares significant reporting, and is responsible for making employment decisions.
Education/Experience
A Master’s degree in college student personnel, educational administration or related area is required. Minimum three years full-time supervisory leadership in higher education with supervision of a department of at least ten employees required. Prior experience providing academic advising to undergraduate students required.See additional required and preferred qualifications below.



Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
  • A strong background providing academic advising to undergraduate students.
  • Direct supervision of a department of 10 or more employees.
  • Must be able to clearly articulate evidence of work supporting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion.
  • Highly developed skill in reviewing and addressing complex student concerns in a timely manner.
  • Advanced proficiency in use of a Student Information System and/or software system designed for academic advising.
  • A strong record of successful working relations with students, faculty, staff and stakeholders across the institution.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A commitment to providing quality services to promote student learning, student development and student success.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 3+ years directing/managing an academic advising department in a supervisory role.
  • Administrative/management experience in a community college setting.
  • Supervisory experience overseeing unionized employees.
  • Knowledge and ability to develop and implement innovative and creative approaches to supporting new students.
  • Knowledge and experience in using technology to improve services to students.
  • Collaborative management philosophy.
Position Status Full Time
Hours
General Hours: 8:00am to 5:15pm Monday-Friday, with occasional evening and weekend hours. Hours vary during break periods and summer.This position may be eligible for a limited hybrid work schedule after a 90-day period.
Salary/Wage $79,755 + Exceptional Benefits
