General Summary
Provide children with a learning environment and the varied experiences that will help them develop socially, intellectually, physically and emotionally in a manner appropriate to their age and stage of development toward the overall goal of social competence;
Specific Position Duties

· Follow all the guidelines of the Minimum Standards for Child-care centers as mandated by The Texas Department of Family and Protective Services with an emphasis on following the discipline policy;
· Complete the required paperwork for the meal counts
· Produce effective written and oral communication with co-workers, parents, and children’
· Work with all the children in a loving and caring manner;
· Take all necessary measures to prevent accidents and provide adult supervision at all times;
· Provides an environment that is free from factors that contribute to illness and teaches good health habits;
· Helps each child to build a positive self-concept;
· Incorporates ethnic themes and traditions into daily routine;
· Praises child’s efforts;
· Provides emotional support;
· Follows Minimum Standards Guidelines for Childcare and Children’s Center guidelines for administering medications;
· Must attend all required and assigned meetings and trainings;
· Set up and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment;
· Take on all the duties of teacher when teacher is away from the center;
· Understand that not all time off will be allowed due to unavailability of substitutes;
· Follow instructions;
· Must work in assigned room or area as needed including Kitchen;
· Must earn at least 30 clock hours of training per year starting at hire date by attending recommended training
programs, conferences when possible, workshops, attending Child Development classes or on-line training;
· Must never leave the children out of child/caregiver ratio;
· Assist with general housekeeping tasks;
· Change diapers, as needed; Teach and/or supervise the children’s classrooms in the absence of the other teacher;
· Provide minor first aide, as needed; and
· Perform any other professional duties as assigned by the classroom teacher, director, or secretary.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Must be at least 18 years of age;
2. Have a high school diploma or high school equivalent;
3. Complete 8 hours of pre-service training before being counted in the child/caregiver ratio;
4. Have maturity and sensitivity, with the ability to relate well to both children and adults;
5. Have the ability to understand and follow the philosophy of the Children’s Center;
6. Pass a background check and FBI fingerprint check;
7. Maintain CPR and First Aide Certification;
8. Supportive personal and work-related references.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree in child development, early childhood, or related field preferred.
Reporting Relationship
First level supervisor the Director of the Children’s Center; second level supervisor Secretary of the Children’s Center.
