Clackamas Community College (CCC) at the Oregon City, Oregon campus seek to hire a part-time faculty Counselor. Counselor/Instructor will be responsible for retention counseling, retention cohort management, meeting classes, instructing, assessing students, and performing other tasks related to counseling and instruction as assigned. The role of the counselor in the institution is both responsive and active. As the needs of the students, faculty, administration, and the public vary, so does the orientation of the activities of counseling vary in response to these needs. The services provided by the department may be categorized as: direct services to individuals and groups, instructional services, program development and support, and liaison with individuals and groups on and off campus. The position may be divided into strictly counseling and strictly instruction, or retain the combination of both depending on the qualifications of the applicant pool.


Essential Job Functions:

This position will either serve in the Counseling or Instructional role.

Counseling Role:
Assignments include, but are not limited to:
Provide retention counseling using cohort based support and instruction.
 
Provide successful educational and career planning to all students.
 
Provide personal counseling/coaching.
 
Inspire and support general retention and enrollment efforts throughout the college.
 
Act as liaison to different divisions of the college.
 
Instructional Role:
Teach college level human development and college success courses.
 
Auxiliary Functions:
May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

Qualifications

Minimum/Mandatory Education and Experience:
Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology or Social Work, or a Master's degree in a related field with 27 quarter credits (18 semester hours) of graduate level counseling courses. Teaching experience at a college level. Evidence of ability to present, collaborate and work with diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities. Demonstrated ability to provide and develop retention counseling strategies. Demonstrated ability to provide personal and career counseling and guidance. Demonstrated ability to document case progress and clinical case notes.
 
Desirable Qualifications:
Evidence of a teaching practice that is grounded in current theories and human development. Evidence of commitment to teaching as a profession and to ongoing professional development. Demonstrate enthusiasm, creativity, and energy in the classroom. Evidence of a respectful and positive attitude towards students and of the ability to motivate them to succeed. Ability to speak a second language. Bi-cultural background. Experience working in a community college environment. Clinical counseling experience.

Physical Demands of the Position:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, bend, kneel, stoop, communicate, reach and manipulate objects. The position requires mobility. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 5 pounds on a regular basis such as files, books, office equipment, etc., and may infrequently require moving materials/objects weighing 25 to 60 pounds. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, calculator, and standard office equipment.

Work environment includes classroom, lab, or other setting as appropriate.
 
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel, and may assign work to student workers
 
Supervision Received:
Works under the general directions of the Department Chair.
