Responsibilities*

30% - Process and complete FMLA/Disability paperwork for patients, families, and patient advocates.

20% - Collecting data using MiChart application to support FMLA claims.

          Communicate with patients and families collecting information supporting their disability claims.

20% - Collaborate with faculty, nursing, and administrative staff for completion of all disability claims.

20% - Requesting and uploading CPAP and Sleep Study results for Inspire patients within the chart using MiChart application prior to appointment.

10% - Provide back up support to panel manager staff as needed.

          Performs other related duties as assigned. 

Required Qualifications*

  • High School diploma or completion of GED program.
  • 3-4 years of experience
  • Understanding of medical terminology.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Communicates effectively.
  • Demonstrates active listening, written, verbal, and information technology skills.
  • Proficiency in Michart applications.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent of years (2-4 years of administrative/clerical experience).
  • FMLA and Disability experience.
  • Experience working within a large, complex healthcare setting.
  • Understanding of Otolaryngology terminology.
  • Knowledge of Michigan Medicine policies.
  • Familiarity with obtaining medical records.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the Service Employees International Union - Healthcare Michigan (SEIU), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment. 

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
