About the Department
The 900+ positions of the Facilities Division service the students and staff of the University’s teaching, research/administrative space and 2,240 acres of infrastructure. The Facilities Division provides design and building services, maintenance, custodial, landscape, solid waste removal, utility, mail, and motor pool services 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The goal is to deliver cost effective services to the University, ensure completed projects and maintenance that conform to codes and regulations, while minimizing University liabilities and disruptions caused by the maintenance, repair and building, and equipment modifications to the University.

The purpose of Campus Operations & Maintenance Trade Shops is to provide quality services to the NC State University community. These services include new construction, renovations, and upgrades of existing areas.
Essential Job Duties
This position will perform at a high FMT Building journey level. Job duties include powerwashing safely and effectively to clean sidewalks, walls, patios, building envelopes, brick, concrete and more. Knowledgeable in pressure washing machine operation and maintenance requirements. Must have knowledge of building envelope to know proper cleaning techniques to use around doors, windows, building exteriors and ground surfaces. Must be knowledgeable and have the ability to properly and efficiently prepare and apply cleaning solutions to multiple surfaces. 

Must follow safe work and handling procedures and OSHA guidelines for dealing with industrial chemicals used in cleaning various surfaces. Ability to drive a pickup truck and 14’ powerwashing trailer. Ability to work in all weather conditions, typical of North Carolina. Must be able to stand for long periods of time, lift up to 60 pounds, and be comfortable with use of ladders. Check and make sure the company vehicle, pressure washer machinery, hoses, chemicals, and tools are stocked and in working order. Must have great communication, listening, mechanical aptitude, high attention to detail, and teamwork skills.
Other Responsibilities
Assist trade shops with maintenance duties as required or assigned. This position has designated as essential personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions even though the University may be operating on an alternate schedule. This position may assist with snow and ice removal under the direction of a supervisor.
Qualifications

Minimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.

Optional Guidelines: Experience in the Trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
Other Required Qualifications
  • Must be able to communicate verbally effectively with supervisors and the general public and understand verbal and written instructions and other communications regarding work assignments and other matters.
  • Journeyman level commercial pressure washing experience.
  • Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds frequently and up to 90 plus pounds occasionally, with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • This position is considered essential to the operations of the University and may be required to report to work under adverse weather conditions. Position may assist in the removal of snow under the direction of the supervisor.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer two to three years journey level commercial pressure washing experience.
Required License or Certification
  • Valid driver’s license required. 
  • Valid North Carolina driver’s license is required within 60 days of hire and must be maintained.
