General Summary

1. Maintain a commitment to professional development and leadership development practices.
2. Maintain accurate and complete records as required by Odessa College and the Texas Workforce Commission.
3. Attend departmental meetings and professional development trainings as required.
4. Assist in administering and interpreting appropriate placement and diagnostic assessments for adult students.
5. Work within the Texas Adult Education and Literacy Reporting System (TEAMS) to track student progress, attendance, and course performance.
6. Function within the policies and administrative procedures of Odessa College.
7. Use of Microsoft Office Suites and other computer tools.
8. Other duties as assigned.

Specific Position Duties

1. Conduct instruction using best practices which develop speaking, listening, reading, writing, and higher level thinking in an English Language Learners’ classroom.
2. Conduct action research regularly to evaluate students’ progress.
3. Conduct instruction using a virtual/remote/face-to-face teaching approach.
4. Apply research-based instructional practices that incorporate the use of computers and other technologies.
5. Participate and implement a variety of instructional methods and techniques learned from professional development sessions offered in the Odessa College Global department.
6. Submit syllabi and lesson plans yearly to the ESL Coordinator for each course taught which conforms to the Texas Workforce Commission’s Content Standards for Adult Education and Literacy.
7. Facilitate group learning, and examine individual student work closely.
8. Teach English to adult English Language Learners.
9. Maintain a professional teacher/student productive relationship.
10. Collaborate with other Division of Instruction staff to create a positive learning culture.
The position can be for a maximum of 19 hours or a minimum of 10 hours per week. Instructors are scheduled to align with career pathway programming Monday – Saturday; afternoon and evening; and 9:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. depending. 15 hours of Professional Development training is req

Minimum Qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university.
2. Knowledge of TABE, Burlington English, Aztec, BEST Plus, or Ready to Work learning management systems and assessment instruments.
3. Experience in teaching English Language Learners in Adult Basic Education, or related field.
4. Excellent recommendations from colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Adult Education and Literacy instruction, practice, and research knowledge.
2. Ability to teach English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) proficiently.
3. Ability to teach English to adult English Language Learners.
4. Specialized training in best practices and differentiation of instruction (i.e., online teaching, curriculum development, Andragogy – adult learning development, etc.)
5. Content knowledge of educational technology to facilitate learning.
6. Bilingual proficiency. (English and Spanish)
7. Texas Teaching Certificate.
