General Summary
The Administrative Assistant for the Biology and Pre-Health Sciences Office Suite position will be best filled by the candidate who has basic office and managerial skills and proficient verbal and written communication skills to carry out tasks such as facilitating productivity-related communication among faculty and staff and serving as a periodic liaison to the public, bearing the goals of the departments in the office and of the institution. 
Specific Position Duties
  • Ensuring sufficient office supplies are present for routine business and teaching
  • Maintaining open communication with department faculty and staff so as to assist with physical and structural (non-personal) needs, such as placing institutional work orders for structural problems in common spaces
  • Providing welcome and directional assistance to visitors (students or otherwise) to the office suite, and requesting sign-in or other verification when appropriate
  • Answering and fielding phone calls that come to the common phone in the front of the department, from within the College or from without
  • Assisting with various clerical duties such as preparing spreadsheets proposing and outlining each year’s budget for the departments within the office and ensuring that discretionary funds in those are accounted for/spent by their respective deadlines
  • Assisting faculty with preparation for outreach events such as College Invasion events at local primary schools and also assisting with external communication with the schools in advance of the departments’ coming (or other external entities depending on the event)
  • Engaging in fun activities such as promoting seasonal spirit through decorating common office spaces, sometimes in coordination with College-wide events; while this is not absolutely required, it is certainly acceptable to have the freedom to do so as other job duties permit
