Job Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, YEAST ENGINEERING FOR ENVIRONMENTAL APPLICATIONS, Biological Engineering, to work on cutting-edge yeast genetic and metabolic engineering projects for environmental applications in the laboratory of Professor Angela Belcher.  Will join an interdisciplinary, creative, and highly collaborative team of scientists and engineers at MIT that uses aspects of nanotechnology, drug delivery, biological engineering, materials science, and chemistry to create innovative solutions in cancer research, imaging, catalysis, environmental bioremediation. Will design, produce, and test novel yeast constructs engineered for applications in environmental remediation, clean mining, and carbon dioxide capture and utilization. Responsibilities include communicating results to the scientific community through publications and presentations, possibly mentoring undergraduate students and laboratory technicians, and other related duties as assigned. 

Job Requirements
REQUIRED:  Ph.D. in biological engineering, biology, biochemistry, chemical engineering, materials science and engineering, environmental engineering, or related field; strong background in yeast molecular biology, genetic engineering, metabolic engineering, and the analysis of microbial product formation; hands-on experience with advanced molecular biology, genetic engineering, and/or metabolic engineering techniques; experience with RNA-Seq and yeast and bacteria cell culture; relevant publication record; proactive approach to research; and excellent interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.  Must be able to design and execute research experiments independently after consulting with the PI, contribute as part of a team, and act as lead researcher on multiple projects; keep an accurate, detailed, and neat lab notebook; follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment; execute detailed technical protocols meticulously; and prioritize and perform multiple tasks in a dynamic work environment.  PREFERRED: experience with bioinformatics, materials characterization methods, and/or drug delivery; and interest in green chemistry and environmental science.  Job #19582
