General Function

Continuing Education Human Resource Development classes aid unemployed or underemployed students in searching and applying for employment, learning employability skills and/or basic computer skills. Under general supervision, the purpose of this position is to provide a comprehensive Human Resources Development (HRD) instructional program committed to quality teaching and successful student achievement. Employees in this classification will be responsible for providing classroom instruction; administering tests; evaluating student performance and maintaining accurate documentation as required by state standards.

Qualifications

  • Degree, certification, and/or NC licensure in a vocational and/or life skills subject area from a regionally accredited institution preferred
  • Advanced knowledge of computer applications including: Microsoft Word, Excel, use of various Internet browsers, email use and features, Internet job searching and completing applications online
  • Candidate with teaching experience is preferred
  • Must have knowledge of employability, interview, and resume writing skills and the ability to work with diverse populations
  • Candidate must be able to develop lessons/course syllabus and maintain attendance time sheets and rosters
  • Candidate should possess effective written and oral communication skills, and be able to serve individuals from all socio-economic levels and ethnic groups
Working Conditions
  • Hours would be based on needs of student
  • Candidate must be willing to work days or nights as needed

Mastery of Subject Matter

  • Demonstrate a thorough and accurate knowledge of their field or discipline
  • Display an ability to interpret and evaluate the theories of their field or discipline
  • Connect their subject matter with related fields
  • Stay current in their subject matter through professional development, through involvement in professional organizations, and attending professional meetings, conferences or workshops
  • Learn and use technology to enhance teaching and the educational experience when appropriate
Teaching Performance
  • Teach a course load appropriate to their field or discipline
  • Plan and organize instruction in ways that maximize student learning
  • Employ appropriate teaching and learning strategies to communicate subject matter to students
  • Modify, where appropriate, instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse students needs
  • Employ available instructional technology when appropriate
  • Encourage the development of communication skills and higher order thinking skills through appropriate assignments
  • Contribute to the selection and development of instructional materials in accordance with course objectives
Evaluation of Student Learning
  • Establish and follow meaningful learning objectives
  • Develop and explain methods that fairly measure student progress toward course objectives
  • Evaluate student performance fairly and consistently and return student work promptly to promote maximum learning
  • Maintain accurate records of student progress and submit final grade rosters to division administrator each semester according to established deadlines
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to student needs and circumstances
  • Must demonstrate ability to create professional work related documents such as cover letters, resumes, and applications
