About Artisans Asylum

Artisan’s Asylum is a vibrant and diverse community workshop - we're a 52,000 SF fabrication wonderland where the arts, learning, and entrepreneurship come alive. With two adjacent open innovation spaces in the heart of Allston-Brighton. We host shared workshops, artist studios, classes, and community events. As a non-profit community workspace, we strive to connect anyone with access to the tools and talent needed to build the things they love.

Why teach at Artisans?

You are giving people the ability to make and create. You would teach people how to safely and effectively use tools. You’re helping your community, having fun, and making some money doing something you already love to do. Pass this along and consider joining our team to help others bring their inspired ideas into form.

How much could I make?

Teachers of group classes get 50% of the class tuition. How much you make will depend on the market value of the type of class you’re offering and how many of those seats fill. While we do our part marketing your class, instructors who help promote often see higher enrollments and more money in their pockets.

Instructors can also set up private lessons in our space when it’s available — you can set your own rates, but we ask for 35% of the revenue in exchange for the use of our facilities, and we ask you not to monopolize the relevant shop area.

Qualifications:

• Prior experience as Instructor, Educator, or Teacher (not required)

• Strong knowledge of the subject matter you propose to teach, including safety.

• Ability to share your passion and enthusiasm for your curriculum

• Capacity to supervise group work

• Commitment to building an inclusive and warm community environment

• Supportive, flexible disposition

How To Apply:

1. Submit your class ideas for On-site Class Proposals or Online Class Proposals by October 25th.
2. Next, email teach@artisansasylum.com with a course outline, your resume, and/or a portfolio, if you have one.
3. We will reach out to schedule an interview and guide you through the onboarding process.

Founded out of a 2,500 SF warehouse in Somerville in 2009, Artisan’s Asylum has grown to be one of the oldest, largest and most vibrant maker spaces in the country. Our members – artists, hackers, hobbyists, engineers, designers, performers – create awe-inspiring works that produce wonder and joy. After nearly ten years in Somerville’s Union Square, Artisan’s Asylum is excited to be moving into a brand-new 52,000 square foot space in the heart of Boston’s Allston neighborhood. The new, two-building campus will include fully equipped facilities for woodworking, metalworking, precision machining, electronics and robotics, screen printing, 3D printing, laser cutting, and jewelry making to name a few.
